SCULPTURE: FUSED GLASS
These fused glass works are made by designing the unique abstract compositions using various shapes and colors of special fusing glass. It is then melted and fused in a specialized kiln. Additional layers can be added in the 2nd and 3rd firings to achieve a relief effect. The use of "dichroic" glass having a metallic finish can produce lustrous reflective surfaces, adding to the magic of light and changing colors in the finished works.
Judith Davies has developed a large body of works, numbering over 100 in the past 6 years. Several are mounted on tempered glass, others having hidden mounts, or horizontal constructions. The works range in size from 12"x15", 14"x24", 16"x28", 12"x48", and 24"x24". Here are a few selected examples:
